One of the most important elements of your Galesburg family dental care is your comprehensive exam. Why? Your mouth is a busy place. Something is happening in there all day and night long:
- Bacteria builds up along your gum line
- Acids attack
- Clenching and grinding wears away at the enamel
- Cavities compromise tooth strength
…and often all of these things start to deteriorate the health of your smile without even the slightest sign or symptom! Lucky for you, Dr. Krech and his team are trained to detect the tiniest changes and fluctuations so any trouble can be caught, diagnosed, and then prevented or reversed.
Your very first comprehensive exam is the most intensive because it is our first time getting to know you and your oral and medical health history. But that doesn’t mean that every exam thereafter isn’t comprehensive. We will always:
- Examine your teeth for even the tiniest cavity
- Look for any signs of wear or breakage
- Check for the earliest signs of gum disease and measure your periodontal pockets
- Check your soft tissue for inflammation
- Scan for symptoms of oral cancer
- Evaluate for dry mouth
- Look for symptoms of sleep apnea and signs of TMJ disorder
- Examine and evaluate your head, neck, and jaw structure
- and, if necessary, take digital x-rays
And because all of our treatment rooms are computerized, we can easily compare the results of your current exam against past exams for ideal evaluation and diagnosis.
